Merry Christmas!!!

This week's show features:

Daughter of Zion's interview on her new project, Melanie's interview, about human trafficking, BBO's instrumental corner, Mama T's Gold Nuggets ,and Power Move Management's

This week's feature interview:

This week's show gave us an opportunity to feature some urban Christmas music from Power Move Management & Consulting.  I had a chance to catch up with the CEO to ask her a few questions about the project and Christmas music within the Holy Hip Hop culture, so grab a cup of something warm, kick back and see below:

Lady Light:   I love Christmas music, but over the 20 years I've been in Christian Hip-Hop and Urban Christian music new projects have been minimal. Why do you think we have so few Holy Hip Hop/Urban music projects with holiday themes?
Letrece:   Holiday music is sometimes considered a little quirky by some audiences. Countless number of people enjoy the Holiday season, but may not be receptive to music that breaks tradition of classic Christmas music. Of course, I'm just speculating, so I am not really sure. It also takes a lot of creativity to make music, period. But, to make Christmas music that also gives the listener that nostalgic feeling takes something extra. Achieving that goal is a little more challenging for the Christian Hip-Hop and Urban Christian artist.
LadyLight:    What inspired ya'll to release "A Christmas Experience"?
Letrece:   I wanted to create a project that showcased all of my artists at the same time. One of my artists, Necie B, suggested we do a Christmas album, which I thought was a perfect idea. What I liked most about it was that a Christmas album, if done right, would stand the test of time. It would never be considered "old material" and would be appreciated each holiday season. I truly love this compilation as a labor of love and a wonderful platform that showcases Power Move Management and the talent that our artists have. It really is some of our best work.
LadyLight:   Why did you all do a re-release and what do you hope the re-release will accomplish?
Letrece:    We created this CD last year in such a short period of time, and so close to the start of the holiday season. The entire album was created and recorded within a two week time frame. This did not give us a lot of time for adequate promotion and advertising. A lot of people were not even aware that PMM had released a Christmas CD. So, we decided to re-release the project in a more timely manner this year in hopes that more people would be aware of it. Also, we truly feel that we have created a timeless holiday album, so we want new audiences to be made aware of it each year.
LadyLight:   How many songs on the project are original?
Letrece:   6 songs are completely original. The others are remakes or revised renditions of classic holiday songs. The original songs are: "Emmanuel" by Jor'Dan Armstrong, "This Time of Year" by Necie B, "Under the Mistletoe" and "All I Want for Christmas" by JQ, "Love in a Box" by Keith Jacobs, and "Long Live the King" by O.T. Griffin. All of the original songs, except for O.T. Griffin's song was written and produced by TedyP of the Good Guys. O.T. wrote and produced his original song.
LadyLight:   Any other Christmas projects or original holiday songs in development that we can look forward to?
Letrece:   At this point, we are not working on any new Christmas material. However, if (and when) we add new artists to the PMM fold, we will be looking to record Christmas music from them as well to add to the compilation.

New Season New Partnerships

Hey Everybody!  I am so excited about this new season of LadyLight’s Spotlight.  The show is dedicated to the young and the young at heart some of my favorite people TEENAGERS! J  I really believe God has a special plan for them in this season and I believe He wants to reveal to them in detail the culture of life and light within His Kingdom.  Therefore, the show will continue to spotlight life and light in the Kingdom of God for those teens who know there is more & want more when it comes to their music, films, and reading!

Each week I’ll be introducing the show’s partners new and old.  These folks are leading the way in creativity and innovation in their chosen ministries and I’m excited to share them with both the young and the young at heart! So let’s get started…..

This week’s partner reveal as you heard on the show is:

Beats By Octavia (BBO)

I’ve been a fan of this online destination for a long time and I dare anyone to find someone online who carries more diverse beats than BBO for the Christian market.  Current producers include Octavia Harris (CEO & Founder), Doc Sizzo, Heir Beatz, PLM, Cameron Joy (also a contributing vocalist for hooks), DJ Bank, & Mach 1. The multiple music genres featured read like the alphabet from Alternative to Underground and everything in between.

Octavia started producing in 1999 and started the company full-time online in January 2012. Although she is an artist as well (www.octaviaharris.com), she states in an interview on Fusemix TV (http://youtu.be/WL6qoQwpYMI)  that under the influence of the Lord’s leading, she found herself focusing more on BBO “to help people get the production they need inside the Kingdom to further advance His.” As the company grew so did the producers and wow are they talented (http://beatsbyoctavia.com/meet-the-team/ ).

There’s decades of combined experience in music production and mastering at BBO, so I am honored to have them on board as partners this season!  This season BBO will exclusively provide beats for the show and will be featured in LadyLight’s Spotlight’s instrumental segment.  Together, we also hope to offer discounts, contests, and free downloads for all of you unique needs.  Go check them out and when you get there…. let them know LadyLight sent you by entering promo code LLSAVE10 when you purchase a beat!

In Other Show Newz:

This week Octavia Harris was actually connected to the show in two ways, because she is also the founder of the Heels & Kicks Music Network (https://www.facebook.com/heelsandkicksmusic). The group started as the Christian Female Christian Rap Network, and expanded under the name of Heels & Kicks Music summer 2013.

Harris states the group “was created to unify women and spread the love of Jesus through our music and testimonies.” The show features a portion of an interview with Octavia not only about the group but also the impact of Hip-Hop on women, the need for women in Hip-Hop, and news about her upcoming project. You can hear an extended version of the interview below:

Producing the first episode, which featured women from Heels& amp; Kicks Music was a labor love.  I look forward to continued features of these anointed, powerful, & diverse women of God in all of my shows!

Family Does Matter
By Carol Price-Williams

There's a cynical saying that most of us would agree with; you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family. But Pastor Patrick E. Winfield Jr. has an optimistic answer to that observation - there's hope.

T.D. Jakes, pastor of the 30,000-member Potter’s House in Dallas launched its Fort Worth campus three years ago. January 13, 2013 was the grand opening. Pastor Winfield said the goal of the Ft. Worth campus is to revitalize the Woodhaven area, which is afflicted with high crime rates, by being an active part of the community and contributing solutions.

Through his twenty-one years of experience in ministry and education, Pastor Winfield recognized a significant need for the church to actively engage in supplying and supporting useful tools and skills to access, develop and maintain a healthy "modern" family dynamic.

Pastor Winfield led the Potter's House of Ft. Worth in hosting a Family Enrichment Conference - The 'Christian' Modern Family (Oct. 18 - 20, 2013) with the goal of strengthening and reclaiming one of our nations’ most fragile institutions—families. But, this was not your 1950's Father Knows
Best or Leave it to Beaver kinda family conference. Participants gained practical tools needed to survive and thrive in our modern complex society. From conversations with married couples, singles and youth, the conference addressed subjects including sex and blended families all from a faith-based yet realistic and transparent perspective.

For example, I was fortunate to sit and listen to Sarah Jakes' session for singles ,Colliding With Destiny (also the title of her book which is to be released April 1, 2014...more about that in Part 2). I was surprised how open and honest she was about her journey from shame and isolation as a fourteen year old pregnant daughter of a prominent minister to becoming a confident self-loving independent young lady. Sarah got her inspiration from Ruth… but again I'll write about this more in part 2, but I just want to say...I was inspired.

I asked Pastor Winfield what he wanted the general audience to take away from this conference and he said, "I want the participants to have a deeper and greater understanding of the definition and purpose of the family and why it exits. There is a purpose in God bringing families together. The first institution God ever created was not the church but the family. From strong families come stronger communities, stronger school systems and stronger societies. If one cornerstone is broken, if the family is broken..., so are all the other institutions".

Pastor Winfield believes that we are called to be and to show the image of God's expression of love, relationships, duty, commitment and covenant in the earth. He categorizes these images as being a wife, a husband, a man, a woman, single, married and as a child/youth. Everyone has a purpose and responsibility to live up to that purpose according to the will and grace of God.
 Stay tuned for more...

As Mentioned on the Show...Helpful Ways To GRow!

Here are the links & tools I promised:
From Joyce Meyer Ministries:
 ALSO TRY THIS OUT!!!
(SEE BELOW)
WORSHIP & DEVOTIONAL TIME 4 BEGINNERS

As mentioned on the show, I was a preteen when I was introduced to two key tools that impacted helped me to grow in a tremendous way spiritually.  Shout out to Bannockburn Baptist Church…I was introduced to these at their vacation bible school!

1.      Follow the ACTS acronym for developing a prayer life:

·        A----Adore (praise) God: Take the opportunity to either write down or verbalize compliments & recognition of God.  Example: God you are some awesome and I pause today and reflect on how caring you are….you are the only true wise God. Acknowledging God is something he greatly enjoys!

·        C---Confess to God: When we offend someone it makes it difficult to truly communicate until we “clear the air”.  Confession allows us to keep a clean heart before God so that our relationship to Him can be closer than any other relationship we have in life.  Confession also gives us a chance to walk in unity or agreement with God & His thoughts.

·        T---Thank God: Ever give a gift to someone that was extremely grateful?  How did you feel?  Ever give a gift to someone who was not very grateful?  How did you feel?  Being thankful keeps us humble, in a position to receive more, & gives us opportunity to avoid negative thinking!

·        S---Supplication to God: This is just a long word for saying we make our requests to God. You do not have to walk through this life alone, because did not allow us to be orphans.  You have a creator that cares for you & your needs and desires to answer you. He enjoys listening to you and carrying your cares for you as well.

The second helpful tool I received was encouragement to maintain a prayer journal.  Basically on the left side you write down your prayer requests and then on the right side you write down God’s answers as He gives them.  It’s amazing to see in black and white how God is moving not just in the lives of others, but in your life specifically!  Here’s an example:

Healthy Eating: Top 5 healthy summer foods

Find out what are the best foods to eat to help beat the heat while lounging at the pool or beach.

When it comes to summer, there is no doubt that most of us want to be outside. Whether it's tanning at the beach, running around in the park or jumping in and out of the pool – summertime means outside time. However, these activities aren't always accompanied by healthy food. It’s ironic since most summertime activities demand slightly skimpy or even bathing suit attire, and yet the fatty foods and salty snacks commonly available to us leave us feeling less comfortable in our summertime wardrobe. On top of this, these foods do little to hydrate us or invigorate us as we lounge around in the heat.

So to lend a helping hand before you hit the beach or pool, here are a few healthy snacks to throw in your bag next to your hat, sunscreen and towel.

Pass the pineapple

Refreshingly juicy, pineapple is without doubt one of the best beach time snacks. However, there is more to this tropical fruit than being a tasty treat. Pineapple is loaded with Vitamin C, which helps to produce collagen to keep your skin looking firm while you run or lounge under the summer sun.

Pineapple is also an excellent source of fiber, which will help keep you full, and prevent you from snacking on salty and bloating treats. However, both of these nutrients can be found in other fruits, and vegetables.

So what makes pineapple so special? The secret is an unusual enzyme known as Bromelain. This enzyme has been shown to aid in digestion, prevent inflammation and help reduce gas – all of which are great benefits when hitting the beach.

Cool as a cucumber

Extremely low in calories, cucumbers are an excellent beach time treat. However, this green vegetable is more than just an (almost) zero-calorie treat.  Cucumbers are nearly 96 percent water, which is why they are so low in calories - and so will keep you hydrated as you bake in the sun. They will also help to hydrate you on the outside, as the sun rays and salt water can leave your skin feeling dry and your hair brittle. What’s more, cucumbers are a natural diuretic, and so will leave you feeling ready to slip into a bikini.

Now if that wasn’t enough to bring cucumbers to the beach (or pool), then how about this: Placing slices of cucumbers on the skin can help to alleviate inflammation. Just place a slice over your eyes and watch the bags fade away. Additionally, they can be used to treat sunburn just like aloe.

Finally, and maybe most interestingly, studies have also found that cucumbers can be a great hangover cure as they contain enough B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish many essential nutrients, reducing the intensity of both hangovers and headaches.

Pop some red grapes

Sweet and delicious (red) grapes are an ideal and healthy way to re-energize while hanging out in the sun. However, aside from giving you a slight sugar buzz, grapes, like pineapple, act as an anti-inflammatory and help to reduce bloating.

These tiny fruits are also loaded with quercetin, a powerful antioxidant that provides many health benefits, including acting as a potent anti-histamine, and so will provide much relief to allergy sufferers when they run, play or just lounge in the grass.

Freshen up with some mint

Eating mint leaves is an exceptional way to cool off and freshen up on a hot summer day. However, there is far more that this cooling herb can do for you: it also helps to sooth the stomach in the case of indigestion and inflammation, leaving you feeling comfortable to show off your tummy in your bikini.

Mix in up with melon

Just like cucumbers, melons are extremely dense in water and help to keep us cool, refreshed and most importantly hydrated while at the beach. However, there is more to melon than just H20.

This group of fruits is loaded with healthy vitamins and minerals, most notably potassium – an essential mineral that offers a host of health benefits. The number one benefit being that potassium acts as an electrolyte in our body, and therefore helps to regulate fluid levels in the body. Potassium also helps to reduce the effects of sodium in the body, which causes unsightly bloating.

Now there are many different types of melon – cantaloupe (orange), honeydew (green) and casaba (yellow), and each offers its own unique health benefits and therefore should all be included in your snack time at the beach.  However, there is one melon that really steals the summer spotlight. You probably guessed it – watermelon. If the name didn’t give it away, watermelon is over 90% water, which makes it the ultimate summer treat.

In addition to keeping you hydrated, recent studies have found that consuming foods high in water may keep you feeling full and satisfied longer. And so this pink (lycopene rich) treat may help to deter you from snacking on less healthy foods.
